Privacy Policy

What we collect

When you pledge, we collect your name, email, phone (optional), mailing address, employer, occupation, pledge details (candidate, amount, charity), and technical information such as IP address. We do not collect or store your card number. Card details are entered in your browser and transmitted directly to Democracy Engine, our payment processor; CounterPledge servers never receive them.

How we use it

To operate the service: verifying pledges, running matching, processing charges through Democracy Engine, emailing you confirmations and results, preventing fraud and abuse, and meeting legal obligations.

What we share, and with whom

• Campaign committees. Federal law requires committees to collect and report contributor information. When any portion of your pledge goes to a candidate's committee, that committee receives your name, address, employer, occupation, and contribution amount.
• Democracy Engine, which processes payments and disbursements and maintains its own compliance records.
• Service providers that host our infrastructure and deliver our email, bound to use your information only on our behalf.
• Legal requirements. We disclose information when law requires it.

We do not sell your information. We do not share it with any campaign beyond what federal reporting law requires. Your charity selection is shared with the charity only as an aggregate disbursement, not as your individual identity.

Public information

Drive results are published only in aggregate. Your individual pledge is never published by us. Note that contributions to campaign committees above federal reporting thresholds appear in the committees' public FEC filings, as with any political donation.

Retention

We retain pledge and transaction records as required for financial and campaign finance compliance purposes.

Security

Card data never touches our systems. The rest of your information is protected with industry-standard measures, including encryption in transit and access controls.

Your choices

Email support@counterpledge.com to ask what we hold about you or to request correction. Transactional emails (confirmations, results) are part of the service; we do not send marketing email.

Children

The service is for adults 18 and over.

Updates will be posted here with a new effective date.
